magneticNorth collaborated with BBC Sport to design the Sport & 2012 Olympics website for mobile devices. The site, which has been designed for both smartphone and feature phones will be an integral way for audiences to engage with the games and will act as a companion – pre, during and post the huge sporting event.
During the Olympics, mobile audiences were able to enjoy live action of the games through live video streaming, use the BBC’s unique live text commentary service and get latest schedule information and results straight into their hands – wherever they were.
The site, which launched in May 2012, contains huge volumes of Olympic content and has been designed for both those who want to quickly dip in and out of the information and those who want to explore and follow entire events.
Working on such a key project for the host nation’s official broadcaster has been a great one for the team to be involved in. The challenge was to create a best in class mobile experience that could be navigated and enjoyed easily by a broad audience of sports lovers whether they were at work, home or on the move.
